Charles H. Dallara is the Vice Chairman of Partners Group Holding’s Board of Directors and Chairman of the Americas. He has 40 years of experience in global finance and economic policymaking. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Scotiabank, the Investment Advisory Board at Holowesko Partners, the Board of Directors of the Bertelsmann Foundation North America, the Senior Advisory Board of Oliver Wyman Financial Services, and the International Advisory Board of Lingnan College, Sun Yat-Sen University. He is a Director at Large of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), Vice-Chair of the Board of Advisors of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy as well as Vice President of the International Finance Forum (IFF).
Prior to joining Partners Group, he was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of International Finance (IIF) (July 1993 to January 2013). In this capacity, Dr. Dallara built the IIF into one of the most influential global associations of financial institutions. He played a leading role in the handling of many sovereign debt issues, including in the Greek debt restructuring. He was also substantially involved in global regulatory reform, working closely with regulators, Central Bank Governors, and the leaders of Financial Institutions to strengthen the global regulatory framework for financial services.
Previously, he was a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan & Co (1991-1993). He also served in the US Treasury Department from 1976 to 1991. During this time, he held a variety of senior positions in the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush Administrations, including Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Policy Development, and United States Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In these capacities, he played a role in key US economic policy initiatives such as the Plaza Accord and the Brady Plan. He holds a Master of Arts, a Master of Arts in Law & Diplomacy, and a PhD from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, a Bachelor’s degree in economics, and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Dallara served as an officer in the US Navy from 1970 to 1974. He is married to Peixin Li Dallara and has three children.
